    Default Your favorite Filipino dish?

I had the good fortune of visiting Manila a couple of years back on an all expense paid trip as part of a close friend's wedding. One of the things that has really stayed with me is the delectable Filipino food. I have tried this cuisine in my own country several times but it just isn't the same. My favorite dish whose name I can't recall was a dessert made from bananas, sprinkled with chocolate and caramel sauce. It was absolute heaven!

Another dish called called "Ukoi" was amazing too. These were fritters made from shrimps and prawns with a tangy taste to it. I also really liked the Filipino version of spring rolls called Lumpai, I believe. Unlike spring rolls however, their wrapping is really really crisp, which makes the stuffing taste even better.

What are your favorite foods from the Philippines?

(Also, anywhere I can get authentic and simple recipes from? Thanks in advance! )

The Philippines had many food specialties that not only Filipinos will love but also by any foreign people. What I like best is "Pork Sinigang, Menudo and Lumpia Shanghai and Togue"...Now that I am living already in another country I am always cooking this kind of foods so that I will not miss them and I will feel that I am still in my own home country.

My favorite Filipino dish would have to be Kare-Kare. It's a traditional Filipino stew which is complimented with peanut sauce. It's usually made of ox tail, pork leg, and lots of vegetables. I also love eating Menudo, Caldereta, Sinigang, Tinola, and Paella.

This summer, some relatives from the US came for a vacation. Their request is kare-kare. We bought a huge ox tail for that and added some small intestines. For the garnishing, the banana blossom is the best together with string beans and some pechay. Our relatives seemed to be in heaven upon tasting our kare-kare particularly with the special bagoong (shrimp paste) that we cooked ourselves. Now the problem is they want another round of kare-kare when the come back in January of 2016 for an informal reunion.

Oh I have a lot of favorite Filipino dishes. But among the best for me that I crave for whenever I am back home are the varieties of noodles like pansit bihon, pansit malabon, palabok, pansit luglog. I also crave for sinigang na bangus (sour broth milkfish) and sinigang na baboy (sour broth pork). Somehow, the taste and ingredients are different when these dishes are cooked abroad. I also look forward to eating turon or banana fritters, sapin-sapin, puto bumbong, bibingka and other Pinoy delicacies! I also love our grilled fish and ginataang dishes or coconut dishes.

My favorite Filipino dish is adobo. In fact, that's the first dish I learned how to cook. The main ingredients are garlic, bay leaves, soy sauce and vinegar, and of course, chicken or pork. It's up to you if you're going to add some sugar and tweak its flavor.
