Default Should Duterte Run For President?

For quite some time now, Duterte, the Mayor of Davao has been headlining the news in the Philippines.

He is hailed as someone who can bring big changes to our country because of his hands on and "kamay na bakal" approach.

A lot of Filipinos has been begging him to run and but he seemed undecided about it.

In my personal opinion, Duterte should not run. I am saying this because when you have to run a whole country, when you have to govern a whole country, it should be WHOLE HEARTED. You do it with all your heart or don't do it all. People don't realise that running a whole country takes a lot, and he knows it too. I don't think that Duterte will be the answer to our country's problems, not because he is not capable, not because he is all talk, but because he simply doesn't want to. And we all should respect that.

I respect Duterte for being the man that he is, but I think that as a man, he should already make it clear as day that he won't run.

I will not directly answer the title of the thread because I think it is more important to ask if Duterte will run for president. I had heard his radio interview on the last day of filing for candidacy. He bluntly denied wanting to run since 2 years ago and he even intimated that he is old at past 70 years old and he is facing some health issues. That's why I wonder why there are people or groups who are so intense in their desire for Duterte to run. It seems to me that they have no respect for the old man's wishes to just stay in Davao. He had said that many times to many people - to President Noynoy Aquino when he was offered a cabinet position, to Gabby Lopez of ABS-CBN when he was invited for dinner on the matter, to the Davao businessmen who offered 1 billion for his campaign funds.

In my own opinion running for President is not that easy because you will govern the whole country and all your countrymen. People should not interfere with the personal point of views of Mr Duterte and if he does not like to run for 2016 Presidential Election we cannot do something about it and just respect his decision. It is his personal choice and maybe he is not ready yet and he knows his own capacity than the people who are urging him to run for president.

I was actually impressed with Rodrigo Duterte's leadership in Davao before. However, as time goes by, I have noticed that he's getting a little annoying lately, and acting way too arrogant. I also don't like what he said to Pope Francis. He just cursed the leader of the Catholic Church, and as for me, that's quite unacceptable. I don't think he should be the next President of the Philippines.

Duterte is currently running for President. I really hope he wins. I believe Duterte will reinforce discipline in the Philippines, and with that, the country will progress. People are clamoring for a change, and I believe Duterte will make it possible.
